Oak Hill Cemetery was established in 1842 and is located at State and Parker Streets in Newburyport. The best way to get there is to go up State Street and take a right into the entry drive across from Greenleaf Street. The drive winds past a few homes and behind the mausoleum to the entry gate. Son of Thomas & Mehitable Carter Born in Newburyport March 24, 1812 He practised Medicine at Cohoes. N.Y. 32 yrs. and died there much loved and lamented Aug. 22, 1866 Aged 54 yrs. 5 mos. Right Stone: Mehitable widow of the late Thomas Carter of Newbury Port who was gently released from her body of pain and infirmity, and entered into that higher, holier life she had so longingly desired: March 31, 1857 Aged 85 y'rs.
