ERECTED
In Memory of
Mrs. Susanna Homan,
who departed this Life
April 2d 1792,
Æt. 66.

This humble stone but tells in numbers rude
Here lies the ashes of the fair & good.
gravematter >
Here lyes interr'd the
Body of Mrs. SUSANNA SMITH
wife of Capt JOHN SMITH
who departed this Life
Decemr 26th 1781, aged 82.

Why should we mourn departed friends?
Or shake at death's alarms?
'Tis but the voice that Jesus sends
To call them to his arms.
Are we not tending upward too
As fast as time can move?
Nor would we wish the hours more slow
To keep us from our LOVE.
Why should we tremble to convey
Their bodies to the tomb?
There the dear flesh of Jesus lay
And left a long perfume.
The graves of all his saints be bless'd,
And soft'ned ev'ry bed:
Where should the dying members rest
But with their dying Head?

Here lyes ye Body of
Mrs SUSANNA BURNHAM, Wife
to Doctr JOSHUA BURNHAM
Who Departed this Life
May the 19, 1759 in ye
29th Year of Her Age

Fresh in ye Morn the Summer Rose
Hangs wither'd ere tis Noon
We scarce enjoy the balmy Gift
But mourn the Pleasure gone.
